Blog: Physical Training

Let’s say you were sitting in a restaurant minding your own business and just as you go to enjoy a sip of your ice cold beverage some guy rolls up and begins flicking your ear.

What would you do?

  • Move to another table.
  • Ask him to stop.
  • Hand him a severe butt whoopin’!

You would do anything to stop the irritating pest.

This is an example of how our bodies work.  It’s a principle called

“Irritation & Adaptation.”

Our bodies are always seeking homeostasis, a state of comfort.  When the body becomes irritated it will then consciously or unconsciously change or adapt to eliminate the irritation.

We crave comfort (pleasure) and avoid pain.

The human body is amazing, in that it will adapt to any stress placed upon it consistently. The first time you lifted twenty-pound dumbbells they were probably difficult to lift ten times. You really had to struggle, squiggle, and squirm to get those last few reps. Eventually they became easier and then you were able to lift twenty-five pound dumbbells.  The body was irritated and it adapted by growing stronger.

If you kept on lifting the twenty-pounders then you wouldn’t stimulate (irritate) the muscle. That’s when the “plateau” strikes…progress hits a brickwall.

The only way to ensure continuous progress is to

CHALLENGE the body

beyond what is comfortable.

Ask yourself this, “Can I do one more?”

If the answer is “yes” then you know what to do.

COMFORT KILLS!

P.S. In part two of this article series, I will share with you the FIVE most Crippling Mistakes that almost everyone makes (even professional athletes.) You won’t want to miss it.

P.S.S.  It’s veteran’s day here in the U.S. I would like to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation to all those who sacrificed so much to serve their country.  Thank you.
