I first met Bryan Francis when he was interviewing as a trainer here at BB3 Personal Training & Performance Center. What stood out most was not his resume although it was very impressive. What really stood out was that along with his resume he brought along before and after photos of his past clients and testimonials. After interviewing nearly a thousand trainers, this was a first!
You can probably guess that we hired him. For the last 4 years he has continued to produce tremendous results for our BB3 clients and has only gotten better with time. He is always prepared, studies relentlessly and lives it.
Now it’s time to unleash Bryan’s knowledge to all of you, my loyal subscribers.
Billy: How did you get started as a personal trainer?
Bryan: I grew up playing competitive sports at a very young age and that carried heavily into both high school and college. My sophomore year in high school I joined a power-lifting team and competed nationally until I graduated. At 16 years of age I was training all my friends and creating the conditioning programs for my high school football team. When I got to college, I studied Exercise physiology, and knew my first semester that I had found my passion. I got my first official personal training job when I was 19 years old and have been training ever since.
Billy: What advice do you have for someone who is trying to lose fat fast?
Bryan: Change your mindset and understand that it’s not going to happen fast. You didn’t get fat in two weeks, so you can’t have the expectation of losing a lot of fat in 2 weeks. So many people step on the treadmill two times and get discouraged because the scale hasn’t changed. You must realize that CONSISTENCY is everything! You must be consistent with both your nutrition and your exercise to see “fast” and optimal results. The more consistent you are with all components of your training program (exercise, nutrition, supplementation, etc.), the faster you’ll see noticeable results. Commit to going 100% for 60-90 days, and you’ll be amazed at what you can accomplish.
Billy: You have had great success helping others at BB3 get RESULTS, what are your keys to success to be a great trainer?
Bryan:
- Never stop learning. Learn something new everyday
- Be inspiring to your clients by setting & accomplishing personal goals yourself
- Believe in your clients more than they believe in themselves
- Don’t just train a client, but rather TEACH a client
- Train each client as if they were your mother, father, sister or brother. Invest a genuine interest in their results, as if they were a member of your own family.
Billy: A lot of people struggle with eating right and this is often the limiting factor. Could you shed some light on how you get your clients to stick to the nutrition plan?
Bryan: Most people will look at the entire week or month of a nutrition plan and be completely overwhelmed with what they see. You must make a nutrition plan that is realistic to your clients lifestyle if you have any expectations of them sticking to it. I tell clients to approach the nutrition plan one day at a time. Nobody is going to eat well for an entire week if they can’t even get through one day. I’m also very strict on planning meals in advance. If the food is already prepped and ready to go, there is much less chance of a bad food decision to be made on the clients part. Before you go to bed at night, you should know exactly what you’re going to eat for every meal the following day. Without a plan, you’re setting yourself up for failure. Not only do you need a plan, but you must also execute it as well. Meaning you stick to the plan. Constantly reinforcing what your clients goals are and the progress they have made up to this point, keeps the momentum rolling and allows them to see the dedication paying off.
Billy: Last question, everyone is looking for the magic pill usually a supplement. What’s your philosophy on supplements?
Bryan: My philosophy is that EVERYONE should take a multivitamin, high-quality fish oil, digestive enzyme, and a post-workout protein supplement. Regardless of what your goals are, every individual should take at least these four supplements (minus the digestive enzyme if your digestion is perfect). I think the biggest problem people run into when it comes supplementation, is that they take everything! The amount of money spent on fat-loss supplements is outrageous. If the majority of people ate how they’re suppose to, there would be no need for a fat-loss supplement in the first place. Aside from the general-health supplements that I mentioned everyone should take, I think goal-specific supplements, such as fat-loss supplements, should be used only to break individuals through plateaus they may experience during their program. I get so frustrated when I see people popping fat-loss supplements and then eating pizza the next day. There will never be a magic pill that will be both safe and effective. If we could somehow manufacture a pill that caused people to move more (exercise) and eat less (healthy eating), then maybe we could solve the issue of 75% of our country being overweight!

“Commit to going 100% for 60-90 days, and youÂ’ll be amazed at what you can accomplish.” What would happen if you committed yourself for just 60-90 days? What type of results would you see? How would you feel?
The big question is “Is it worth it?”
Great Interview! B-Francis really is a great trainer and his clients always get great results. I totally agree, without a plan, it is really hard to get results! My favorite part of this interview: “Train each client as if they were your mother, father, sister or brother. Invest a genuine interest in their results, as if they were a member of your own family.” Thats one thing that you can see from all the trainers at BB3, the genuine interest in their clients lives. Thanks for sharing, great post!
