Blog: Living It

I have worked side-by-side Michelle Marie Diaz for years now and I can attest to her ability to transform bodies and lives. She has impressive credentials but what is most impressive and admirable about Michelle is how much she CARES about her clients getting results. She doesn’t just count reps, she teaches, coaches and inspires greatness in others.

Get your notebook ready and prepare to become even smarter as I interview BB3 Super Trainer, Michelle Marie Diaz

Billy: Michelle, how did you get started as a personal trainer?

Michelle: At the age of 16, I had a burning desire to be healthy and get fit. So, I hired a personal trainer and I worked 6 days a week to pay him. Every day we trained I had more and more questions, and my passion for fitness began growing by the day. As I learned I always found myself helping people at the gym or giving people tips. I realized I had a deep desire to help others. But I also had so many questions and so much I wanted to learn.  So I decided to become a personal trainer and by age 18 I was certified and that is when my journey began.

Billy: What is the biggest mistake you see clients making who are trying to lose fat?

Michelle: I would say most of the time people are

  • Not eating enough
  • Over exercising

By not eating enough, I mean, not eating enough times a day, which slows metabolism, and not eating enough quantities of clean foods. Most people trying to lose weight eat twice a day and just eat salads. What ends up happening, is not only do they slow metabolism, but they binge at the end of the day.

By over-exercise I mean, CARDIO! People think they need to do a ton of cardio to lose the weight first before they start a resistance training program. People are not aware of the immense benefits that a resistance training program has on fat loss.

Billy: To be a great trainer like yourself what do you think are the keys to success?

Michelle: As far as success as a trainer:

  • Continued education
  • Surround myself by positive, smart, successful people (like all the trainers at BB3).
  • Passion for what I do

As far as success with clients:

  • I like to focus on the 165 hours a week my clients are not with me. During the 3 hours that they train with me I just make sure my continued education allows me to make great programs that get people to gain muscle, lose fat, be pain free all the while having fun. But there are a ton more hours that they are not with me and my goal is to inspire them and teach them to control their nutrition during those hours. Most of the time its helping them plan their meals around their busy lives in a way that they don’t feel deprived and in a way they enjoy. If they can enjoy the process, they will be able to maintain the results, and that is key.

Billy: You have had great success with clients and getting them to eat healthy and delicious.  Could you provide a few tips for our readers?

Michelle:

  • Once a week make a menu of what you are going to eat for the entire week.
  • Make a grocery list & shop for everything you need for the week.
  • Take the time to find and cook recipes that are clean but are satisfying so that you don’t feel deprived, because if you don’t feel deprived, you will be able to stick to your nutrition plan for longer which will help you get better results.

There is something so mental and emotional about eating.  If you enjoy the whole experience of eating and you feel satisfied, you tend to binge less. If the food looks good and tastes good, there is no need for the “junk” or the extra calories of “extra servings” because you weren’t satisfied with your “boring meal”.

And if you take the time to plan ahead and prepare for the week, it’s so much easier to eat clean.  Not only do you enjoy it more but it also saves you time, energy, and frustration. I couldn’t imagine having to think every single day of what Im going to eat and what Im going to cook and if I have all the ingredients, and having to go to the grocery store every day. All it takes is a COMMITMENT to plan and prepare.

My SECRET is: PLAN AND PREPARE ON A RECURRING BASIS. Set a day and time every single week where you plan your menu and shop for food.

Billy: What’s your advice for anyone who is out there looking to achieve a lean belly or chiseled abs? What does it take to get there?

Michelle: COMMITMENT.

You have to COMMIT to your workouts AND you have to COMMIT to eating clean.

If you have the COMMITMENT, then what it takes is a great resistance training program that changes every 3-4 weeks and eating clean.

But honestly, even if you have a GREAT program, if you don’t have the RIGHT NUTRITION, those ABS will never show.

  • Eat a starchy carb, a fibrous vegetable and a lean protein every 3 hours.
  • Eat Organic as much as you can.
  • Cut out PROCESSED foods.
  • Eat enough HEALTHY FATS
  • Stay hydrated.
  • Have a good Supplement protocol.
  • Try to sleep at least 8 hours per night.

Billy: Thank you Michelle! You rock!
