Blog: Physical Training

The majority of diet books say that you don’t have to exercise to lose weight. It’s true. You can lose weight without exercise. So if you don’t enjoy exercise then just skip this section. Oh…I almost forgot to tell you one thing. Although you can lose weight without exercise, it will slow your metabolism and in the long run you will gain the weight back and along with that weight comes a special bonus of even more lard than you had before. We will examine this topic in a later chapter; however, you must gain a greater understanding of exercise before you get there.

There are two types of exercise that you need to perform if you want to incinerate fat, maximize definition and add lean muscle.

  1. Resistance Training
  2. Cardiovascular Conditioning

The Master Principle: Making the Most of Exercise

If you learn only one thing about exercise it needs to be this.

Let’s say you were sitting in a restaurant minding your own business and then some guy rolls up to you and begins to flick your ear. What would you do? Move to another table. Ask him to stop. Hand him a severe ass whoopin’!

You would do anything to stop the irritation.

This is an example of how our bodies work. It’s a principle called “Irritation & Adaptation.” Our bodies are always seeking homeostasis, a state of comfort. When the body becomes irritated it will then consciously or unconsciously change or adapt to eliminate the irritation.

We crave comfort (pleasure) and avoid pain.

The human body is amazing, in that it will adapt to any stress placed upon it consistently. For example, the first time you lifted twenty-pound dumbbells they were probably difficult to lift ten times. You really had to struggle and squirm to get those last few reps. Eventually they got easier and then you lifted twenty-five pound dumbbells. But if you kept on lifting the twenty-pounders your body would adapt and they would no longer impose a challenge. There would be no stimulus for the body to change and that’s when the “plateau” strikes.

Principle

The only way to ensure continuous progress is to CHALLENGE the body beyond what is comfortable. Comfort kills! Challenge creates change.
